WHAT'S STUCK IN MY HEAD: "I'll Stand By You" by The Carpenters
*It was one of the featured songs on last night's "Idol Gives Back" (the Carrie Underwood version, though). Gina Glocksen also performed it during Gwen Stefani week on "Idol".
And speaking of American Idol, last night's episode was one of the most heart-warming (not to mention one of the craziest) episodes ever. And it also had the most shocking results in the show's history (according to Ryan Seacrest).
Here's why:
1.) They kept on showing videos of the children in Africa (and some videos of the kids in America) who were all victims of poverty. Most of them were homeless. They didn't have enough money to go to school, let alone enough money for food. Some of the African kids were HIV positive. These were the people to whom the money raised (by the fund-raising program of American Idol) would go.
2.) Ben Stiller wouldn't stop singing this certain song (I've forgotten what it was) until the money raised would reach a certain amout (I've also forgotten how much. I think it was about 8 billion dollars).
3.) Rob Schneider introduced himself as Adam Sandler.
4.) Jack Black performed Seal's "Kiss From A Rose". After that, he broke into Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All".
5.) There was a "Simpsons" version of an American Idol audition (in this case, Simon Cowell's audition). The judges were Marge, Homer and Lisa. Simon sang his own version of the Pussycat Dolls' "Don't Cha" (he said "boyfriend" instead of "girlfriend", and instead of "Don't Cha", he said "Don't you".) That was my favorite part of the show, actually.
6.) I don't know how in the world this happened, but Elvis Presley performed with Celine Dion ON STAGE.
7.) Here comes the shocking bit: NOBODY GOT ELIMINATED. According to a certain website, "This is the accurate outcome of votes cast: American Idol's network and call capture systems not capable of accurately counting votes in this volume. Accurate voting results can only be achieved by vote samplings. Phil, LaKisha and Chris received the fewest votes this week, Period. No one will be going home because American Idol does not know the accurate vote count. Domestic phone network trunks not able to handle the volume of calls accurately. Traffic congestion shuts down and overruns switches resulting in wildly inaccurate voting counts. Sooner or later, this truth will surface in the media. This is not American Idol's fault or their intention. Local exchange carrier phone networks simply not able to handle the volume of calls accurately. The show has become more popular than U.S. phone systems can handle". I have no idea if it's true though. But anyway, since no one got the boot this week, two people would be sent home next week (the bottom 2, in short).
By the way, there was NO BORAT, NO DANIEL RADCLIFFE and NO GWEN STEFANI. Bummer. And they were the people whom I really wanted to see.
Enough of American Idol. Let's talk about today's (and yesterday's) Newton reviews. Something has definitely gotten into me and my fellow Dominicans. We've been noisier and more talkitive than usual, even for us. It seems that even the smallest mishap would turn out to be really funny. Plus, the two queens of craziness (Eka and Fiona) were sitting beside each other a while ago, so ya'll probably know the result of that. Dig this: they would sing Callalily's "Magbalik" using a British accent, so it sounded like: "Towlad ng mondowng hindey towmeyteygeyl sa pag-eykot, pag-eybig 'dey mapapagowd". See what I mean?
And speaking of Eka, we (me, Cham, Karissa, Jamy and Fiona) think that she's the object of interest of one of our fellow Newtonians. Hint: He sits somewhere near me. He kept on looking behind him (at Eka) that we resorted to counting the times when he did that. Today's total: 102 times during the whole day. Yesterday's total was a bigger digit: about 124 times in just around 30 minutes.
It'll be my sweet sixteenth in a few days. Man, I'm so excited.
We're gonna be leaving for Vigan tomorrow, so that means that I won't be able to update my blog for a few days. Don't worry. I'll get back to you ASAP...
See ya!!!
